CARLUKE View of Station on Carluke THE SCENECarluke is an “N” gauge layout depicting a section of the West Coast Main Line as it sweeps through our local station circa 1960. The track plan is based on the 1912 rebuild of the station and all bridges, buildings, trees etc., have been scratch built.THE MODELThe model consists of ten baseboards forming a shallow crescent. The mixture of freight and passenger traffic makes for interesting operation, particularly when running the layout to a genuine timetable.  Scenic view of Carluke CONSTRUCTIONEach baseboard is constructed from 2.3/4” X 3/4” [70 X 19 mm] dressed pine making up and “L girder” frame. The track bed is cork on 5/16” [8 mm] plywood, supported at intervals using the open frame principal. Peco streamline track has been used with predominately large radius turnouts. The turnouts are powered by Peco point motors fitted with KMP point motor adaptors.All buildings, bridges and scenery are scratch built. For full operation of the model, two persons are required, one at each end, although the layout is capable of one man operation. The overall running length is approximately 58 feet [17.7 metres]. The layout was sold in 1991. |
