PERTH GREEN WHARF

THE SCENE

Perth Green Wharf represents a model of the long closed and almost forgotten Ness and Tarff Light Railway.  This narrow gauge line was built in the 1880’s to link the villages on the banks of Loch Ness to the Caledonian Canal.  The railway was never a financial success and it struggled throughout its life until finally closing completely in 1934.

THE MODEL

The model represents the station area at Perth Green Wharf which was the interchange between the railway and the canal, the village of Perth Green itself being a mile or so from the canal.  The scene is set in the 1920’s when the railway was still running both freight and passenger services.

THE TRUTH

To students of railway history the above will seem rather obscure, based as it is on a purely fictional idea.  However, the model represents a possible might-have-been and an opportunity to develop a model with a Scottish flavour to 009 standards.   Originally built south of the border, the layout is currently resident with Clyde Model Railway Club.
